PJ: When I first noticed your GBCW diary, my gut reaction was sadly not different from some of your detractors here. Given that we've never traded any personal attacks, I wondered about this - and thought I'd re-acquaint myself with some of your more recent diaries. Based on which, I'll share with you a perspective that's somewhat different from the one you've outlined above.

You seem to believe that those that oppose your views are simply looking for an echo chamber. I suspect their opposition has rather been to the kind of toxic, narrow-minded bitterness that they perceived coming from you, a kind that has sadly claimed quite a few others on this site. True intent seeps through one's words, no matter how vociferously that may be denied. I don't profess to fully understand the reasoning behind your words, but constructive well-meaning criticism they were not.

I believe you're still suffering the effects of a long and bitter primary, and need more time to get it behind you. Taking a break from political blogs may well be the best option at the present moment. If you are successful at this, more power to you - and let the rest of us know how!

When are they going to ban him, and leave the place safe for people who don't even post any diaries of their own, but have plenty of criticism for those who do?  Don't they realize their role is to support Obama, and not to discuss things on the intertubes?

You're the perfect example of why I'm leaving.  Around here, its me that's considered any form of troll (of the concern variety, of course), while people like you, who hijack threads and stalk people who don't support Obama as ardently as you wish, are the ones that have actually ruined the environment and chased away good people.

I don't know, but I swear in my posts sometimes to make it sound more like casual conversation, and I get more gasps of righteous indignation around here.  Man, these guys around here would hate some of my friends in real life - many of whom are the real undecided voters in this country, btw.

I'm not putting up signs or phone banking or anything, but I haven't done that for any other candidate in the past, either, so its not sour grapes or anything.  

And that's part of the problem.  Now that we have a nominee, there's not as much to talk about.  And when dissent is stifled by the community, there gets to be even less to talk about.  

There's a tendency for people here to think we need to post diaries for the benefit of undecided voters, when the target audience is actually Democrats.

Guess it's easy to defend someone when you aren't a victim of their attacks.  Let me know if someone is spam troll rating you, posting insults and obscenities at you, and calling you a serial killer, because I'll say the same thing in that case I've been saying now.  It's trolling.

CG, I've called you out on a couple of occasions but mojo'ed you on many more. In this case, I feel compelled to gently point out that not all strident opposition results from conspiracies, nor are the more determined responders necessarily "stalkers".

The more prolific of posters will likely encounter what appears to be serial opposition from certain users. But that's likely the result of certain frequently made points pushing certain people's buttons, rather than any concerted effort to target anyone in particular.

I'm sure that holding a minority view in a strongly opinionated blog is no picnic. I'm sorry you've been called a troll, an opinion I certainly don't share. But I'll also admit to few regrets should certain well-established trolls decide to leave.

And the reason for this is simply because I could do without the aggravation - as could most of us - an aggravation largely borne out of having to repeatedly address long-debunked accusations that keep getting resurrected and recycled with little real intent to debate.

If there is constructive criticism to be shared, well-meaning advice or real concerns that aren'y simply an excuse for more ad hominem attacks, let's hear it. Pointless, endless negativity that has little purpose to it other than it's airing and whatever catharsis that entails, should be called out - and rightfully so.

While most people use this line as snark against other users, I really mean it when I say:

If more members engaged in respectful discussions like you, this would be a better place.  I like that when you disagree with someone or something, you calmly and rationally explain why, instead of posting cat pics, stating "is this snark", etc.  

If more members responded to diaries they disagree with like you, there might actually be some decent discussion around here.  

negative because I'm a ranter, and my diaries contain rants about things that piss me off.  I don't write diaries to get discovered or to build a fan base to start my own website.  If it doesn't piss me off, it probably doesn't motivate me to take the time to write a diary.  

My first diaries on Daily Kos were rants about the media.  The first diary was about about how the corporate media treats bloggers.  I read something, it pissed me off, and I wrote about it.  

My second diary was about how the media covers Democrats (Castro endorsing Clinton/Obama ticket).  I was disgusted by the coverage, and ranted about it.  

My third diary was entitled "Hey Corporate Media: Stop Blaming Consumers for Poison Toys".  Again, I read articles in the media blaming consumers for wanting cheap crap from China, got pissed, and ranted about it.  

My next diary was about how CNN was carrying George W. Bush's water.  I saw something on CNN, it pissed me off, and well you get the point.

My next diary was a rant about how Democrats in Congress are so weak and mealy mouthed, compared to Republicans.  I was pissed at Dems looking weak and not knowing how to deal with the media, and posted a rant about it.  This was in response to media reports I had seen which pissed me off, so I ranted about them.

My next diary asked whether we should feel sorry for diplomats who don't want to go back to Iraq.  This was less of a rant and more of a subject for simple discussion - a comparison between diplomats and soldiers, etc.

My next diary was about an ugly email I received in my neighborhood email group bashing "illegal immigrants".  It bothered me that someone used a neighborhood yahoo group to send that email, so I ranted about it.

My next diary was a rant about how disgusted I was with the terror memo prepared by John Yoo, and the tactics used against certain suspects.  Need I say more about my disgust there?

And then in January, 2008, when Markos flip/flopped and became an Obama propagandist and went out of his way to attack Hillary Clinton all the time, and the frontpagers and everyone else either fell in line or left, I started posting rants exposing how ugly the site was becoming.  

Then, by March, 2008, right before the "writers strike", I GBCW from Daily Kos, and came here.  Understandably, I was upset at Daily Kos, and my first few rants over here were aimed at the site.  

But I'm sure libertyleft will tell you all about my toxic toys and anti-torture diaries, while he spends all his time cutting up my words and trying to make everyone else here disrespect and dislike me.
